.Legally, anyone can call themselves an accountant. However, to call yourself ‘Chartered Accountants’ you must be a member of one of the Chartered Institutes. The owner of our firm is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW).
As you would expect, membership doesn’t come easily; it involves a great deal of study and passing numerous examinations encompassing accounting, financial management, audit, business strategy, tax and IT. To continue as members of the ICAEW, accountants must maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct. As a member firm, WHC follows the framework of quality assurance principles which covers laws, regulations and professional standards, client acceptance and disengagement, competence and quality control. Chartered Accountants are required to undertake continuing professional development, ensuring their knowledge and skills are up to date to best meet the needs of their clients. Members are governed by the Institute’s bylaws, regulations, standards and code of ethics. The firm is also subject to regular review by the ICAEW, and non-compliance can result in disciplinary action.
You can find out more about the ICAEW at www.icaew.com.
As a regulated firm, we are required by the ICAEW to have certain levels of professional indemnity cover in place in case things go wrong. We are also bound to retain your tax papers for sufficient time to assist you with meeting your regulatory obligations to HM Revenue & Customs.
Some unregulated accountant may operate to these standards and their firms may have some of these features but as an ICAEW firm you can be guaranteed that all of these important controls are in place at WHC
